Fellowship for Afghan Journalists in Exile
Journalists and human rights defenders in Pakistan and Afghanistan face threats ranging from digital surveillance to targeted violence.
Strategy
Challenge:
After the fall of Kabul in 2021, hundreds of Afghan journalists were displaced and left without professional networks, security, or livelihood options.
The Design Approach:
Create a support ecosystem that would provide community, production resources, legal aid, psychosocial support, and continuous skill development.
Client
The Solution:
Onboarded and engaged 70+ Afghan journalists across Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, and Afghanistan. Organized events, trainings, and mentorships tailored to the needs of exiled journalists. Maintained social media groups and virtual platforms to foster connection, safety, and peer support.
Focus Areas: Community Building, Media Resilience, Legal Aid, Digital Communication
Outcome:
Helped sustain journalistic activity in exile. Journalists continued to produce critical, ethical reporting. Networks now actively collaborate across borders.
